Week Three -- HR interview
Becoming a great HR person is my goal in my future career. I was so glad that I had a chance to work with the HR people during this internship. The best gain of this week was the experience of helping with the Taian Branch Office hiring case. Taian is a city that belongs to Shandong province.Taian Branch Office is a third-level office which is running the local business of Taian.
There were twelve interviewees interviewed by the Taian Branch Office. And finally, three people got into the final interview by the Shandong Branch company. Considered of the efficiency, Morei, the manager of HR, made it
an online interview. After I got the resume of the three interviewees, I prepared some questions based on their experience and the position which was the director of employees’ training. The video interview was carried through Skype. Morei Liu, Tao Liu, Qing Liu and I made up the temporary interviewer group. The
process of interviewing was a little shorter than I thought. Every interviewee got about 20 minutes to talk. This was my first time to be part of the interviewers. I tried to ask questions to interviewer. Most of the questions were around how much they knew about our company and the Taian Branch Office; how much they knew about working on insurance and training program; why they wanted to quit the previous job and wanted to join Guohua; what was their planning of career, equirement of salary and so on. I realized most of interviewers’questions were already showed on interviewees’ resumes. The reason why they asked the interviewees again was that they wanted to test their ability of expression and to know if they were honest of making their resume. The interview lasted about two hours and we had a meeting after all the three
interviewees. We changed our opinions and finally decided Gang Xu as the director of the director of employees’ training. He was doing a similar job in another insurance company for several years. The reason he wanted to join the Taian Branch Office of Guohua was because his wife got a better job in Taian and they planned to move there. With his outstanding working background, ability of expression and understandable reason, he won in the competition.
For me, what I obtained from this experience was not only how to organize an interview, how to choose a proper employee, but also how to be outstanding as an interviewee. The first part was valuable and would help with my future working as a HR person. The second part would be helpful to act better in my own interview after graduate.
