Week one -- Getting started
This is the first week I started to work in the Guohua Insurance company. I was exciting and surprised how nice the managers and other people were. As a newcomer, I was extremely welcome by all of them.
Zhengang Liu, which is the supervisor of integrated management department, talked to me on Monday morning after the weekly meeting. He gave me an overall introduction of the company and the integrated management department. Instead of telling me what I should do during the internship, He asked what I want to obtain from these five weeks. This way made me feel comfortable and be expected. After the jolly talking we decided a schedule of my internship. It was including what part of job I would follow and who would be the adviser of each part. I list them as below.
Week I : Overall being familiar with the daily work of Integated management department.
Adviser : Dengwu Cheng
Week II : Help with making data sheets and preparing management meeting.
Adviser : Chong Liu
Week III : Assist HR to work on the Taian Branch Office hiring case.
Adviser : Morui Liu
Week IV : Assist online CPS training with all the branch offices.
Adviser : Tao Liu
Week V : Unknown (Communication meeting of Banking Insurance)

For the last week, we decided to do an open working-focus. Zhengang Liu believed that I would find some job that I really want to follow it deeper after I finish the first four weeks. I was appreciate he gave me the chance to make this decision.

Week Two -- Sheets working
The first week passed really fast and I obtained some basic knowledge of the company. There are five main departments under one president, Jian Yang, and two vice presidents, Mr. Xu and Mr. Zhu. The department I am doing internship in is called integrated management department. It is the one mainly taking charge with the daily management operating, human resource and legal compliance. The other four are Personal Insurance Department, Group Insurance Department, Banking Insurance Department and Customer Support Department.
Chong Liu, who is my adviser this week, he taught me how to make data sheets and asked me to do the one of this month. In order to know how was our company’s performance; we need to do some statistics of the data every month, every season and every year. The sheets are about differents datas of sales comparing with other periods or companies'. This job belongs to the integrated management department. Chong showed me some sheets in the past and wrote down several formulas for me. He also explained the meanings of some professional words. After he showed me some examples, I started to do that by myself. At the beginning, it was really hard to find the numbers that I needed in the big sheets and pick the right formula to calculate, and then fill in the right place in the new sheet. I spent the whole morning but only got several data done. I felt frustrated and worried about if I could finish it in the three days. However, Chong sent me an email in the afternoon. He said “I believe you had fun with all the calculating and filling forms. Now you must be familiar enough with the data and how it comes out. Let’s make the job efficiently. The attachment is the Excel edition of the sheets. Think about how to fill it and try to make it easier with the technology. Please feel free to contract me when you have any question.” So I started to use Excel to do the calculation and continual found great ways to make it easier and more efficient. Finally, I finished all the work on Friday by noon. When I sent it back to Chong, I said thanks for the teaching and training. I learned a lot from this assignment. He was really satisfied about my job.
I think the lesson for this week is not about how much I learned of the formulas or how many sheets I finished; it is how I could finish a job with more thinking and skills. I believe most of jobs are not that hard, especially for new employees. If you want to be outstanding, the only difference you can make is the way you do it. Open your brain, think about it and try to make it professional. That should be the point.
